1999 Ford Mustang Replacing the IAC valve...what do I need

I am replacing my IAC valve in my 1999 Mustang GT and I wanted to know the proper way to do this. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the new IAC needs to be 'reprogrammed' for the proper airflow, etc. Is this the case? If so, is this done automatically? Do I need to disconnect the battery before replacing it? Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

you should remove the - battery cable before ever doing something mechanical to a car.

Simply remove the IAC and clean the mating surfaces and clean out the housing and install a new one and gasket.

the PCM will have to relearn after having the battery connected, which it does automattically after a few times of it being driven.
