1995 Mustang Auto Transmission

It shows no codes and never has concerning the transmission. The Transmission guys are convinced the problem is not in the Transmission.

At times it would be so bad the car was almost undrivable.

I found this, maybe your trans guys can put 2 and 2 together and figure it out.

A shift to neutral at heavy throttle or kickdown can be caused by restricted or flooded shift solenoids. Use the following steps to correct this condition.

Step 1

Check line pressure during the neutral condition.

If line pressure is high (over 200 psi), check the valve body bolts for looseness. If the valve body bolts are loose, torque them to 80-100 inch pounds.

Note This condition usually occurs one or two weeks after rebuild.

Step 2

Check the snout of the pressure control solenoid for wear.

If the solenoid snout is worn, replace the solenoid (figure 2). The Ford part number for the solenoid is F3AZ-70383A. The solenoid bracket should also be replaced (figure 3). The Ford part number for the bracket is F3AZ-7H111A.

Step 3

Check the solenoid pressure regulator valve.

Remove the solenoid regulator valve from the valve body. Make sure the valve strokes freely.

Step 4

Replace the shift solenoids.

Ford has updated the shift solenoids twice. The most current change occurred in 1995. The Ford part number is F5AZ-7G484-A.

They told me when they pulled the transmission the second time they replaced the solenoids and checked the pressures and everything was good.

They had the car for two weeks trying different things. That may be why they seem to believe the transmission is good and the problem is elsewhere.
