I have a '95 V6 3.8 Mustang with approx. 200,000 miles. Recently the engine has begun running ruff, with low idling RPMs, around 500-650, and sometimes stalling. Also, ther is moisture and white 'smoke' coming out of one of the rear tail pipes. (It had an inexpensive dual exhaust installed). When accelerating it'll occasionally have abrupt lags or catches. The check engine light came on with the code reading a bad cam shaft position sensor, I replaced the sensor and cleared the code but still the light is on saying bad sensor. I'm afraid it might be a 'bad' piston b/c I also have a problem with the engine overheating and coolant boiling up out of the cap. So far I have replaced the Cam sensor, the thermostat, temp switch, temp sensor, fan motor, and the radiator is only 6 months old, next is the water pump. Am not sure if the overheating and engine problems are related or seperate or if i am on the right track. Could use a second opinion.

There was an extended warrantee offered by Ford for revised head gaskets and a cooling system flush for all 3.8 Mustangs assembled at the Dearborn plant between Oct 4, 1993 to Aug 11, 1995, if you want to try to have Ford fix it, not likley now but you can try, call 1-800-423-8851, that number is for the claims center.

Thank you for the information, very helpful. I read several things online about the warranty not being extended to rear wheel drive vehicles, i.e. mustangs. Was this rectafied, if so where can I get a little more information before calling? Thank you for your help.

You can go to any Ford dealer and have them print out this TSB, ask for it by the reference number I gave you, ALL 93 to present Mustangs are rear wheel drive, and this covers Mustangs with a Dearborn engine 3.8...Your VIN is all Ford needs to tell you were it was built...If your 11th digit is an F it's a dearborn assebly! here is the chart.
