Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Ford Mustang V8 130000 miles

1994 Ford Mustang GT V8 - while driving the car, lost all power and all lights came on, pulled over and could not restart the car. Had it towed, mechanic said they needed to replace the distributor cap, rotor, and line, and all 8 spark plugs. $350.00. Car ran great after that.

A few days later, same thing happened, car stopped while I was driving. Back to mechanic, who said that it appeared that the rod was bad (gummy?) and they didn't see that in the initial diagnostics. It had started to cause damage to the rotor that they had just installed. Mechanic wants to replace the distributor. $350.00

Does this sound normal?

No it does not. Me thinks the cap was not on tight and came loose allowing rotor to strike. Have a look at the cap and rotor. And have him show you the gummy rod.
