Transmission problem
1971 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I am restoring a 1971 Mach 1, 351c. The car starts and idles fine now. When I shift into drive, the car will move forward. Then I step on the brake, and the idle seems to almost bottom out, but it keeps running. I shift into reverse and it acts as if I am stepping on the accelerator (even though my foot is still on the brake). The rear tire spins and the engine revs up. What would cause this?

You know, when I was changing the oil pan I remember seeing that the passenger side motormount had seperated (rubber from metal). Since I am not driving the car yet, I have not fixed it yet. The car is a few towns away right now, so it will be a week or so for me to get out there and put new motor mounts in, but I will let you know when I have done that.

It took a while, but I finally got out there and changed the motor mounts this weekend. It looks like you nailed it in one! 2 new motor mounts = no peeling out in reverse (unless I want it to!). Thanks for the info!
