Engine Performance problem
1993 Ford Mondeo Two Wheel Drive Manual 150000 miles

Had car mot'd saturday and it passed but whilst on the duel carriage way this morning, i went from 60 to 70 and it kicked out smoke, that looked blue? It only did it at the higher speed and when i accelerated? It is a 1.8 injection engine.

Hi there,

The blue smoke is oil burning, if you have not noticed any smoking before it may be due to diluted oil if the car has not had a service in some time, do an engine service and check the weight of the oil you are using, and see how this affects things, if it still wants to smoke you will have an issue with rings or valve stem seals and or guides.

I have to say that i was told originally that i had to use a fully synthetic oil by my uncle but then was told that i did not need to do this and so was sold a semi synthetic. Could this be my problem? I only put started to use it a couple of months a go.

HI there,

If the car has been using fully synthetic i would consider going back to that , but at the age of the engine (is it still original) i would be tempted to try 20W-50 non sync and see how that goes.
