2010 Ford Fusion Oil change question

Interested in buying this car. Doing some research noticed that Ford recommends oil change every 7500 miles. I've had pretty good luck with other cars by sticking to every 3k miles.

Car will be driving for commuting to work only, nothing heavy, nothing excessive. I live in Cleveland so winters can be tough.

Oil doesn't wear out, it gets dirty. Today's oils have detergents in them to help keep the engine clean. However, the detergents wear out after about 3K miles. At that point, dirt and deposits begin to build up in the engine.

Will oil last 7500 miles, yes. Would I recommend changing it every 3K, yes because it will prolong the engine's life. Also, because of where you live, moisture becomes an issue during the winter months. Keep it changed.

Greg don't listen to Joe, changing the engine oil on older vehicles is required every 3k miles, but not on these new ones coming out, 2008 Mercedes-benz C350 require oil changes every 15,000(using a 5-30w synthetic of course) but still on the newer vehicles they are coming out with are so much more improved than the vehicles from 1990-2005. It is perfectly fine to change your engine oil(without having to worry about dirty oil) every 7.5k they make them that way for a reason. And the whole winter moisture thing I dont know where that comes from, the moisture doesn't get into the engine oil hahaha, and if you're worried about that get a thicker oil like 5-30w, I'm sure your vehicle reccomends a 5-20w as almost all fords do but if you're concerned and don't know what to believe just use a 5-30w you'll be perfectly fine! BTW I've been a mechanic for 29 years now and have been doing this kind of stuff all my life!

If you want to listen to Scott505, go for it. I've been in the business for 30 years and know enough to say oil doesn't wear out, it gets dirty. The detergent in it (synthetic or conventional) wears out around 3000 miles. THat is when you start getting dirt / sludge build up. Also, use what the manufacturer recommends as far as oil weight. They engineered the vehicle, not the tech that works on it. As far as condensation, when an engine is cold and starts to warm up, (air) which contains water in it creates condensation in the engine.
