2006 Ford Fusion No Power with Key

I have a ford fusion sel and nothing works when i have to use the key ., no dash light ( battery light n such ) .i had a wre smell come from under the dash near the door n 30 sec later car stopped .. i have l headlight n all but nothing that works off the key will work ..like car in in park n i have to use bypass on lever to get out of park . afriend of mine seems to think it is a burnt wire from key switch on ward . can that be or can it be a bad fuse ....
