Do you have to take the air bag out of the steering wheel to get to the lower nut on the cruise control switch cluster or is there another way to get to it?? Thank you in advance for the help!!

To replace the speed control switch on the steering wheel, yes you do have to first remove the air bag.

Cruise control light does not even come on. Other than the brake disconnect switch on master cylinder, is there something else that usually goes out on Freestar cruise controls. Checked fuses, OK. Wife spilled Coke on these switches and the cruise has been acting up ever since. Therefore, almost sure this is the problem. Don't really want to mess with airbag, trip coming up, so would like cruise to work for it. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated!!

make sure brake lights are working. if fuses and brake lights working then with the soda spill you mentioned it would be very likely that the switch is the culprit.
