2003 Ford Focus Trunk Lock

I have a 03 focus and the problem is that when you push the trunk release button on the dash or remote it does a continues clicking as it tries to release. Sometimes it releases sometimes it won't. What could it be?

Could be a sticky latch mechanism Look in it to be sure there is no debris inside the latch and it is not physically damaged. Try lubing the latch .
