2003 Ford Focus I hear a sound

When driving sounds at times as though I have a flat tire I can feel it when putting foot on the gas and I can hear like a thump at times when driving. Idles funny rough with ac on at times also.

Can this be a master cylinoid problem or my transmission sterring column. I need to take a 5 hour trip this week for a job interview and i need to know.
