I ahve a 2001 Ford Focus with about 35,000 miles on it. It has been well maintained i.e oil changes when we are supposed to and recently ahd its 30,000 mile checkup. It is an automatic transmision. today coming home I ahd to stop at the corner . When I tried to go agian I pushed the gas pedal all the way down and could only manage about 5 miles an hour, it that. I was not too far from home and lived down hill so thankfully, gravity got me home. I had a full take of gas and the engine did not shut of. It just wold not go any faster. What could be the problem? (I'll bet it's expensive!)

Your next step is to start pulling codes. May have a faulty sensor sending error codes,
The computer don't like faults in the electronic system.

Let me no

[quote:8fda932148="Diehlshauling"]I own a 1989 Ford F150 4x4 with a 302 automatic w/overdrive with about 117,000 miles. About 4 months ago it started acting funny. It would run great as long as it was cold but, when got hot it would shut off and stall and would not start up until it cools off, when it does this and I try to start it it clicks like the battery is dead. I have replaced the battery, computer, coil, ignition module, distribitor. checked the starter, starter solinoid (on the firewall), ignition switch, recentelly it will not start at all. I am at my witts end with vehicle. also checked the battery cables all good and clean. :?:[/quote:8fda932148]

One other thing check for loose grounds perticularly from battery to frame make sure its secure and clean.

Got oil in it? Can you turn the motor over by hand?

Well if you take a rench and attach it to one of the pulleys and turn it counter-clock-wise the motor will turn.

Question for ya friend Have you gotten a chance to pull codes from the engine computer yet. This could possibly svae you time and money.

Keep me posted.

I think poet means that if the computer has recognized a fault earlier and set a code, you can retrieve them whether the vehicle is running or not.

If no codes present, I would suspect a bad coolant temp sensor.

I think I found the problem, 2 wires with fuselinks were melted togather, I replaced them and she started, I wil only know if it will correct the other problems when i take her on along trip. (the wires when to the starter soliniod)!

Have the PCM scanned for codes. That will give us a place to start. The mileage is pretty low to be having these kinds of issues

There was a recall on the fuel pump in 2001 (at least for the wagon - maybe all focus vehicles). Our 2001 wagon acted much the same except that it would do what you are describing for 30 seconds to a minute and then quit. It would restart and run for a brief period and then die out and quit again.

Perhaps your issue is the fuel pump as well (if you haven't had the recall work done).
