2004 Ford Fiesta V12 41000 miles

I bought my second hand car yesterday, my first car since passing my test. I had a bit of trouble on a hill start, which resulted in me being rather paranoid and reving the car a bit too much. Once I was over the hill I pulled over to let the car cool down as the clutch was smelling a lot. Since then the Speedometer hasn't work. Why is this? What can I do to fix it? Does it need to go to a garage? Will it work once the car has cooled down properly?
Could this be a blown fuse? If so, what else would be linked to this? IE what else might not be working?

the speedometer get an electrical signal from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) .. you need to have this checked !

was this due to the revving on the hill start or are these unrelated matters?

it may have already been going faulty .. over revving will not generally damage the sensor ?
