Brakes problem
2001 Ford Fiesta 68000 miles

Hi, i have a 2001 ford fiesta zetec s and 2 weeks ago i had new brake pads and discs fitted at my local garage who i have used many times before.
Four days after they had been fitted i was driving up to a roundabout and as i braked (softly) the ABS kicked in for no apparant reason. It wasnt doing it every time i braked but it did happen a few times and then the ABS light came on and another light next to it. I took it back to the garage and after looking at it they told me the ABS sensor had "packed up" and needed replacing. The work has been done and the car seems fine now but i have not yet paid the bill. I am extemely suspicious about this sensor being damaged as only 4 days previous they were working on the brakes?! They are going to charge me over £100 just for the sensor plus labour and VAT.
I would like to know your proffesional opinion and could this sensor have been damaged by them whilst replacing the pads and discs?
Many thanks

HI there,

The speed sensor is a very robust item, the really only vulnerable item is the wire that feed the signal to the ECU, this is not disturbed when replacing the pads or rotor, if the wire was damaged in any way that would effect the signal i feel that the problem would have been present on there road test and this is not really something that you can mask up, ii do feel that this is a case of bad timing, thees things do happen, if in doubt trey and see if they still have the sensor, and inspect it your self, removing it will not damage it, i think that you will find that it looks unscathed just may be a tad dirty.
