it could be electrical, but we need to verify first if the fan even works, so you will need to hardwire the fan to the battery or another power source to see if it will come on, if not then you know the motor is bad or the radiator fan relay is bad.

thanks for that info. my son tried that and the fan does come on so do you think that is a possible break in the wiring.

I think the engine coolant temperature sensor is the culprit. its not telling the computer how hot the coolant/engine is therefore the computer cannot activate the fan, this will also cause bad fuel economy

and will cause your car to overheat and ultimately cause bigger issues

that sounds logical but my son was advised to test if the coolant sensor was working to cut the wires and then re connect them he was told if the fan came on it was a faulty sensor if it didnt come on then it wasnt that it didnt come on would it be worth me spending money and replacing it i was quoted around 20 pounds

i will get him to do that, if its replaced, which will then mean i have replaced both sensors , could there be any other possible reasons for my fan and temp gauge not working

i have just spoke to my son and he says that he did not cut the wires. He was advised to take the 2 wires from the coolant sensor and touch them together and in theory if the fan came on then it was the sensor that needed replacing. The fan did not come on. Should i still replace the coolant sensor.

yes, because we know the fan works right? we hardwired it to the battery and it came on. so we need the coolant sensor, in theory, this is the problem
