I'm changing the timing belt and tentioner on my 1988 Ford Festiva. In a 1989-1993 Chilton Service Manual (I don't have a 1988 service manual) it says to remove the front right tire and inner fender panel to get access to the crank pulley. I had hoped the 1988 procedure would be the same. The problem that I discovered is that the 1988 doesn't have an inner fender access panel to remove. QUESTION: How do you achieve access to the crank pulley bolt? I thought of removing the engine mount on the same side to drop the engine a few inches to possibly give access -- or use a jig saw and cut an access panel (possibly scab it back in place afterwords)? Trial -- If this site gives good info, I will gladly start using it routinely and will gladly pay...

Hi there,

If you can't gain Access to the bolt, drop the engine mount and the pulley should drop far enough, i have not do one of these for some time, but other cars with similar access problems work out well this way.
