2004 Ford 350 diesel, autotransimission with manual 4WD shift, 30K miles. With autotransmission in Park, (as recommended by Ford vehicle instructions), and using the 4WD stick shift to move from high 4WD through neutral to low 4WD, there has never been a solid engagement into low 4WD (I expected a slight shift to the right to get into low gear). When going over even mild bumps at very low speeds, the shift jumps back into neutral and the engine starts racing. I need to hold the shift lever in the low 4WD position and drive with only one hand. This condition has been there since I bought the truck. The local Ford mechanic says he can't see anything wrong with the shifter, nothing blocking its movement, and he has no bumps to drive over to duplicate what I have seen. Any suggestions?
