1997 Ford F350 cruise control/ overdrive control

If I am on cruise control and I use the left turn signal the cruise will drop off. If I am going down the road at 35MPH and select the left turn signal, the rpm increases as if i had turned OD off

I pulled the bottom cover off of the steering column, but I don't see any chafed wires visible.

What next?

Look right where they come out of the switch, they usually get broken up right there from flexing all the time

I'm not sure where to look. The turn signal is some distance away from the cruise control and the OD button.

What controls are on the turn signal switch? Im trying to look at wiring, but need to know what all the switch has on it

In addition to the turn signals, the wiper, washer, and headlight dimmer are on the turn signal lever. I have not yet tried the headlight dimmer to see if there is any effect. The OD switch is in the center of the shift lever on the other side of the column.

It would be great if you will be able to tell me where the wiring comes together, and what firewall connector is used. I see two firewall connectors that I can get to from the engine compartment if I need to. I don't know if there are others.

The only place I can see where all of those things come together is the GEM module. Might want to try one of those, seen many of them go bad and create a full range of different problems

I have looked closely for apparent wiring corrosion, etc but I am not finding anything suspicious. I found that the symptom of increased engine speed, cruise drop out and apparent transmission downshift occurs even before I move the turn signal lever far enough to actually turn on the left signal. It also happens if I turn on the flashers as soon as I move the switch.

I would like to be able to inspect the multi function switch area for wiring problems, etc. but I don't know how to get the covers off of the steering column. Is there anything online that has pictures showing removal?

No pics, just says remove. There are small screws going up from the bottom, and possibly a hook style hinge at the rear of the covers.
