The truck will run miles with no issue then all the sudden it will shift out of gear, what seems like nuetral. I can let off the gas and it will shift back in to gear but with a very harsh shift. The OD light will blink for about 5 min then the problem goes away, somtimes for a long period other times within the next 10 min. The odd part is if I am towing my boat or I just leave the plug adapter in the socket the problem does not occur.
Example: I drive 40 miles to work and back. Probably 3 days out of 5 the problem wont occur. It does seem to happen the longer I drive it. almost as if something has reached the hot point and is shorting or not working correctly.
Any Ideas? I have replaced the VSS and the MPLS. Thanks in advance.

Hi gpaac,

Thank you for the donation.

When the OD light blinks, an error has been detected by the transmission management system and a troubl code has been stored in the PCM.

Get a free scan done at Autozone and let me know the exact troube code so I can understand the problem and be in a better position to advise on what to do.

the dealer had the truck for 2 days said the vss needed to be replaced. That didnt work so I took it back and they said there was no code and they couldnt replicate the issue after having it 2 additional days.

If no codes are present and the problem is intermittent, it is not going to be easy to get to the cause of it.

Possibly some wire harness connectors are loose or contaminated resulting in imporper conductivity after a certain period of driving or conditions.

When was the last time this occurred?
After the last time it occurred, was any codes retrieved?
