My transmission started slipping when it tries to downshift. If I manually downshift to 2nd it will go, but slams pretty hard. THe fluid is not low but looks pretty thin and brownish. I was going to flush it and replace the filter to see if it helps, but the guy at Autozone suggested I first try adding Lucas transmission additive. And if it helps to forgoe changing the fluid - just drive it with the additive. Is this a good idea - to not change what looks like pretty old AT fluid? Thanks much, Chuck

If would recommed changing it with a new filter then add the additive. Some say that if the fluid is too old, the new fluid will clean out the dirt that is making it work, but I never saw that happen.
