I have an old 87 F-250 with manual locking hubs. I was driving on the beach the other day with the 4-wheel drive engaged and I noticed a clicking/popping noise coming from the front driver side wheel while i was pressing the gas. When that happened I lost the power and traction I needed to drive in the sand. The rear wheels were digging into the sand but the front wheels were not moving. I got out to make sure the hubs were locked and they were. I'm thinking that the locking hub failed and needs fixed or replaced. And if one fails, does that have any influence on the other one?

if one fails then that is the wheel in the front that all the power will go to so only rear wheels will turn. check to see that they are locking and holding in properly. sounds like they are bad or the transfer case isnt engaging fully into 4th
