I have a Ford 460. I had somebody tell me that if i changed the timing gears and chains to 429 gears and chains that it would give me better performance. Is this true? And if so what exactly will it do?

This will make no difference at all, as the basic cam timing is the same, i am not that familiar with these engines so i can't comment on valve timing, this is controlled by the profile of the cam it's self, this question will be left open so someone with a bit more experience may be able to shed some light on these cams, but the chain and gears will not alter any thing, I will preface that with, if a timing chain is worn and stretched and gear teeth are worn down this will affect the engine performance as it will alter the valve timing marginally, so if yours is worn i would look at a chain set and you can investigate a mild performance cam grind that be be an advantage.
