I'm trying to change the lug bolts on an 88 Ford F-150 4X4. I'm not sure how to get the lug bolts off. My haynes manual doesn't tell me how to do this. I know how to do it to the rear wheels, but I don't know how to do it to the front wheels.

Manual or locking hubs? Do you know how to get those off?

I believe they are part of the rotor. Once the rotor is off they get pounded from the face and out the back. Put the new one in the hole and draw it up with an old lug nut put on backwards. Remove and Discard the nut replace with new nut.

If you removed the lock ring, the hub should slide out.

Service writers prefer to not get their hands dirty

Install new of the cap screws into the body of the hub so you have something to pull it out with.
