a/c

my 1997 Ford F150 with a 4.2liter overheats when I run the a/c. I recently recharged it and it blows cold air. I took it on the highway and about 10 miles down the road at 65 mph, I watched as the temperature guage went to the red area on the temperature guage. thanks for any and all help

I'm not real familiar with your truck. I also couldn't find a wiring diagram for it. The question I have is, do you have an electric cooling fan for your radiator and if you do, is it running when the AC is on?
