'97 F-150, 3door, auto, 2wd, 4.6, rear anti-lock brakes, 214,470 miles, XLT, towing pkg.

1. Daughter sitting @ red light & tuck stumbles like running out of fuel & quits. She starts it again but it stalles out. Everything else works on the truck.
2. Fuel light on.
3. I go to save her & add 3 gal of fuel, so total might be equal to 1/4 tank
4. Will not start but turns over just fine
5. Push fuel rail valve to check for fuel after multiple cranks
6. Fuel @ rail BUT just oozing out some & not squirting out after multiple cranks. Not under pressure
7. Pulled plug wire=have spark, big time
8. Check relay & swap it out=relay clicking, both old & new
9. Check inertia switch=OK
10. Take fuel cap of & turn key on to listen for fuel pump engagement. I figured I should hear it w/a 1/4 tank
11. Do NOT hear the fuel pump kick in or feel it kick in by feeling the tanks side
12. Going to buy a new fuel pump, sender & screen if there is nothing else I can figure out.

Any ideas before I spend 200 bucks on a complete fuel pump assembly?

Thanks,
Jim

Try bypassing the fuel pump relay with a live wire for a second or two and listen for the pump just to make sure it's not the fuel pump relay at fault.

Nope didn't work, but thanks. I swapped relays, the horn & fuel pump relay. Same part number or so it says on the relay so I guess I can just leave it since the horn relay is hardly used as opposed to the fuel relay.....correct.

Installed new fuel pump (two hours in the driveway) & everything is fine. It sure did it's job after 10 yrs & 200+ thousand miles.

Thank you,
