You didn't give the mileage or engine size so I will assume you have a v 8 or v6 with high mileage due to the year of the truck. Either way you have spark and fuel so the engine management system is working correctly, so there is no need to try and pull the codes. However you don't know if the timing is correct. I don't know if your truck has a distributor or coil packs, but if it does here is how to check the timing. First remove the #1 spark plug. Next have an assistant gently tap the key to slowly crank the engine while keeping your finger over the spark plug hole untill you feel compression build up. Then slowly turn the motor by hand untill the timing marks line up. This is top dead center. Remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is pointing at the # 1 tower of the distributor cap. If not the timing chain/belt slipped and the timing is off. The timing gears and chain then needs to be replaced.
