Brake rotor and hub assembly

If you are having trouble removing it, you can try heating the rotor where it attaches to the hub and it may come off that way. If you are not worried about the rotor, put a couple of the lug nuts on a few threads and use a heavy hammer to beat it off. The lug nuts will stop the rotor from flying if it pops off.

Let me know if you have other questions. Also, if you need to save the rotor, don't beat on it.

i have a ford 4x2 f150 4.6 lt, 6 stud, 2004 made in july truck, ive been having trouble finding the hub assembly part number, last they told me this model has the rotor attached to the hub assembly, can anyone help me find the right part number and if this model has the rotor and hub assembly all in one, where can i get a diagram?

I have a 1997 Ford f-150 4wd. the ball joints need replacing, so i began the task. However, the axle shafts are stuck in the hub assembly. any ideas on how to get them out?

Has upper ball joint been removed? May need to tap on axle with brass or rubber mallet. will need to remove torsion adjuster to remove lower "A" arm. see diagram

I recently tried to use my 4wd to drive on the beach, but to my surprise I got stuck. I haven't used it very much probably less than 5 or 6 times since I bought the truck 4 yrs ago. The previous owner said he probably did not use the 4wd but 1 or 2 times. It has the auto locking hubs. When I engaged the switch on the dash to the 4H postion the transfer case locked in but the hubs did not, I also tried it in the 4L postion but it still did not work. I try to do my own work on my vehicles but I am very unfamiliar with this type of problem. Can you give me some suggestions?

Looks like you have the vacuum operated front hubs. Be sure the vacuum lines to them are hooked up and not cracked/broken. If ok follow them up the the engagement source and check the vacuum lines there, you may just have a small leak somewhere

If your truck is a 4 wheel drive it doesn't even have a bearing hub assembly. It has individual bearings that are serviced separately.

I just purchased this truck and noticed that when I lock the manual hubs in the truck pulls hard to the right. I do not notice any pull at all when they are unlocked. Any help would be appreciated.

Could be you drivers side hub is worn and not engaging. Kind of a pain to pull apart but easy to put back together if you pay attention.

The flat rate time to replace 2 bearings on one side is 1.1 hr. and it does require some special sockets.

Well I've taken mine apart several times and nothing has come flying out of it. All you really have to do is unscrew the main piece that has the switch on it and pull it out, if a lot of metal flakes/dust that looks like graphite comes out then it needs replacing. But then again, if it doesn't it could be something deeper like alignment or something else. Let me know how it goes.

Something else to check is the front axle shaft u-joints. On a lot of the older trucks when they go bad they will cause a severe pull when turning, because they are siezes. This makes the opposing side push. in order to inspect them properly, the hubs should be removed. they shouldn't "fly apart" unless they are broken, but you can pull them out and just lay them out on the ground like they came out of the truck. then you have to remove the brakes and the hub. the shaft will slide out (sometimes a little effort is required) and you should be able to tell if the u-joints are frozen.

how do i get my hub and rotor off on a 1990 ford f150? i have taken off the lock ring, the snap ring, hub body, outer locknut, lock washer, inner locknut, and a bearing. Is there still more I have to take off like another bearing or a c clip?

this was the last thing that i have taken off. what more must i remove?

Double check for a retaining clip. Other than that, it looks like you removed everything.

I am restoring my grandfathers 1979 F150. I am starting with rebuilding the front end with new bushings, shocks, brake pads, etc. The drivers side was no problem, but on the passenger side, it appears the standard lock mechanism was replaced somewhere along the way and I have no idea how to get it off so I can put a replacement one on. Attached is a picture. I am willing to research how to remove it if someone could just identify what year/make/model it is from. Thanks!

It's from the same era, the picture below is an 84, does this look like it? There are two C clips on this before you remove the lock nuts, one on the inner edge of the hub and one on the axle shaft.
