See my profile,
I do not know specifics about your rig
I do know general things to check.
Vehicle off
Wheels chocked front and rear
BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of gear
Crawl under at driveshaft to differential location
Grab Driveshaft between Yoke and Transfer case with one hand
Grab yoke side of driveshaft closest to the differential with other hand.
"WRING" The "U" Joint like a wash rag---opposing force to the center portion, between the yokes ("+" looking part, look at the ends of the "+", the round ends, are called bearing caps or needle bearing caps---this is where the WEAR will show.
THERE SHOULD BE NO "SLOP" or "PLAY" in the assembly........Any movement with one hand should move the entire assembly Simutaniously.....Even a Teeny-Tiny little bit of wear in the bearing caps is WRONG!!!
You have 2 "U" Joints on each Driveshaft----Check the other one, against the Transfer case......the same way.
I have had this same issue many times with my Jeep, and friends Jeeps (extreme driveshaft angle causes fast wear)........Most recently, my Dad drove his 1976 F-150 "U" joints until they almost were falling out.........It had a Horriffic shudder when under power!
Sometimes you can hear them squeaking/ squealing before they get terrible....on CJs usually its more noticable during Decelleration.
