I just had the carrier and pinion bearings and the spider gears replaced in my 2004 Ford F-150 4X4. The mechanic that did this told me that the rear end is now fixed but that the chain in the transfer case is now loose and rattling due to the work listed above. I was just wondering if that is possible.

Kinda low miles to be seeing a problem like that.Do you use 4x4 often? Is th enoise the same as when you took it in for the rear end rebuild? may have a mis-diagnosis for the original noise.HAve seen the guides and chain need replacing, but that was in the older GM models, mid to late 80's
