Fuel pressure regulator location and replacement ?

The fuel pressure regulator is located on the fuel rial up at the engine. here are the instruction to replace it which also shows the location as well. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

in the book it says it has bolts to the fuel rail and here on your instructions says it has a clip. just want to double-check , the fuel pressure regulator is on the passenger side at the end of valve cover going back right ?

Can you get a picture of the part that you are looking that bolts to the engine?

Normally fuel pressure regulators just have the fuel lines clip onto the regulator so I am not sure what you are seeing in the book that says it bolts on.

How do you remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator?. The FPR does not have any retaining screws just O-rings.

Its on the fuel injection manifold rail-it will look similar like below

Runs great but after driving for a little bit kind of hard to start sometimes, but not always and terrible fuel mileage. Eighteen gallons used to go 190 to 220 miles now 150 miles on a good day.

I have attached a tutorial showing you how to test your fuel pressure. There is a Schrader valve located on the fuel rail to test. Pressure should be 35-45 PSI with engine running.Hope this helps and feel free to ask questions if you have any. Danny-

Alright I have the truck listed above, it has the first year 302 fuel injected engine, automatic transmission, and two wheel drive. I’ve never had a problem out of this truck until now. I’ll let it warm up then I’ll drive. From 0-15 mph exactly it sputters kind of but it is more like it’s cutting in and out. Then as soon as you hit 15 mph it’ll run like a race car. It’ll let you go as fast as you want and as much power as you want for about a mile or a couple of minutes. Then the engine will cut out to idle or 1-2 rpm's until you reach exactly 30 mph then you’ll do the whole process again. When the rpm's drop and engine drops to idle if you cut it off it resets it and lets you go as fast and as powerful as you want. I’ve changed both fuel pumps and fuel filter. Not sure what else to do. I’m not the best mechanic In the world but I can do basics. Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

That is an interesting one. Have you checked fuel pressure? Have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes?

Next, if there are no codes, I need you to check fuel pressure. I realize the pump is replaced, but it could be related to a bad fuel pressure regulator. Here is a link that explains how that is done:

Also, the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail See picture 1. Remove the vacuum hose and confirm that it changes pressure and that there is no evidence of fuel in the vacuum hose.

Last, if nothing checks bad as far as the fuel system, we need to check the ignition control module (TFI) on the distributor. See picture 2.
