Engine Cooling problem

My problem is that my Ford is overheating when I'm going more than 50 mph. But when my truck is idling it goes back to normal or when I turn of my truck and just let it sit for about 5 min its fine. I just replaced the thermostat and flushed out the radiator. What else could it be. Please help!!

That is usually the opposite of what happens. Have you had to add coolant? Have you checked the oil to make sure the coolant isn't making its way to it? Also, how does it run other than the overheating? Finally, how old is the lower radiator hose? I have actually seen them collapse when the engine reves. At highway speed, the engine is reving and it could happen.

PS: Are you sure you replaced the t-stat facing the right direction?

The truck runs fine. I haven't had any problems with it besides the overheating. I did put the t-stat facing the right way. I haven't changed the lower hose since I got the truck, that was 3 yrs ago. The truck only had 66k. My friend told me that its the radiator, that is is clogged. Let me know if that sounds right!

That could be the problem. You can try to flush it yourself. If that doesn't clean it out well enough, have it rodded out. They will actually place the radiator in an acidic solution that will clean it out. There is a place near me that does all my radiator work. WHen I get it back, it is cleaned, repainted, checked for leaks, and looks and works like new. And all of this is done for around 40 dollars.

THat would be a good idea to try. If the hoses are old, it would be a good time to replace them too.

I was driving on the freeway and got stuck behind a semi. I went to pass the semi and my truck had no power, would not get over 40mph and as soon as I started going up hill my truck started to overheat. I pulled over and thought i was just overheating. i had to turn my truck back on to move off to the shoulder and my truck was fine. Still had problems with power going uphill.

Did the MIL indicator came up?

When was a full service last dne?

Nothing came up and my last full service was about 5 months ago

Is this an automatic or manual transmission?

When climbing hills, what were the engine rpm?

On level roads, how fast can you go ?

Was anything done prior to this occurring?

I have a '01 Ford F-150 and it had been overheating so I replaced the thermostat didn't help so I replaced the radiator cause it seem to be clog, replaced it and added 50/50 coolant and burped the lines and no leaks, and has been running fine in town speeds around 55mph, had to go out town and as soon as i got on the interstate about ten minutes later it overheated, I have checked the heads and there fine and idles fine. I just don't get it!

might be a bad radiator cap but also for d recommends turning on heater and having hot air blow from center vents and top hose should be hot to touch. I really can't think of anything else if been pressure checked and ok. Only other thing I've seen is when dex cool and regular green antifreeze was mixed cause caking around cylinder walls so it wouldn't cool. Also unless there is dome type of air flow problem at speed. I kinda doubt the last thing though the caking.

I have a 2000 Ford F150 4.6l. The thing over heated and the coolant boils up, if u try to take the cap of it boils out and over. We replaced the thermostat today and well its still doing it. The coolant gauge shoots up and things get really hot. What could it be?

Have you ever had the radiator flushed? Also, check both upper and lower radiator hoses to make sure they are not sucking shut restricting the coolant.

My truck is leaking anifreeze. I think it is from the recovery cap I aready change a new cap and it keeps on on leaking . I also put a new thermostat and it keeps on leaking. Also the temperature in the guage when starting to drive it moves to the H for seconds a then it goes back to normal.

have the coolant system pressure tested and the cylinder's compression tested you may have a blockage in the system ?

How can I test that I 'm not sure how to do that

you will need to take it to a shop i'm afraid, it require's a pressure test tool .. which you can buy from most autoparts stores if you want to do it yourself ?

One of my friends said the truck my need a new radiator what do you think should I take it first to the shop and have the pressure tested

If your truck is leaking from the recovery tank/cap .. the radiator will not be the fault .. without looking at the vehicle it's hard to assess .. but if you brought it to my shop I would be looking at the thermostat, which you have changed so should be ok, looking for a blockage in the system or checking the water pump is working correctly .. you seem to be getting a backpressure forcing water out of the recovery bottle cap ....I would have it pressure tested at a shop .. they shouldn't really charge for a diagnosis ? in the hope they get the work ?

I took the truck to shop and they said it was the radiator and I put in a new one and new thermostat
yesterday . Today I test drove it and and still over heating do you no what it could. be thank you I just notice that the heater sometimes is cold then it gets warm again and then cold .....
