Transmission hard shifting

Recently I am experiancing my transmission shifting strangley. The reverse is no problem at all but forward gears have me wondering if there is a major issue.

When I put it in drive it hesitates and then seems to slip into gear. I have no problems when shifting up after it is in gear. Recently I have had to rev the engine up before it snaps into drive. I replaced the fluid and the filter and it helped slightly for about a month. Now it is back to the same senario and it is slipping out of gear when I stop or let the engine under 1000 rpm's requiring me to rev the engine to about 2000 rpm's to re-engage. I have always had a problem down shifting in that it will jump to 4000 rpms bfore kicking down and it slams into gear.

There are no leaks from the outside of the pan or seals that I can see.

For a start get the transmission range sensor inspected and tested-also make sure the transmission 12 pin harness connector is fully seated and engaged

Is this the same as a transmission control solenoid?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition of fluid-If okay might want to have the transmission pressure tested to identify internal problems

The transmission range sensor tells the computer what gear is it in, then the computer commands the appropriate shifting solenoids to provide the upshifts/downshifts/overdrive/lock-up-

I have checked at local parts stores and no one even shows that the TRS is available for this model. Although they do show a speed sensor which is laocated on the Diff. Is the TRS buried in the tranny?

Sir-can you give me the transmission model no. is it a 4R70W tranny-The TRS is on the left side of the transmission

Yes sir it is a 4R70W Tranny. I have checked the 12 pin connector and it apears fully engaged and free from defects.
The part seems to be a dealer only part. Any idea what the cost is to have it checked and replaced might be?

My OD switch on the shifter column is broken off also.

I tested the tranny some as I drove it today. Once it is in gear if I shift to 2nd gear and drive it seems to stay in gear when I stop and turn corners. It will still shift up and back down if I put it in Drive but it is not any different from the other gears from a stand still. I still have to rev up the motor to initially get the tranny to grab. I know the switch is in the OD mode now and I am going to replace the switch. Any help on how to replace it. Doesn't show me in the Haynes manual.

The TRS is about $70.00 and takes to R/R about 1/2 hr-

What are the chances that the TRS is bad and can I do this myself? I have the ability.

I really can't afford a large $$$ fix. I am sure a diagnostic will cost me at least the $70. If the TRS sounds like the issue I would rather just replace it and save the Diagnostic. It seems I can P/U a used tranny for around $600 as compared to a rebuilt @$1,300.

Your thoughts?

Sir-The TRS are one of them that could cause your problem you can play it by ear on this if you wish- Your thoughts is about the same as mine on this situation
