1997 Ford F150 overdrive does not go in or light flashes fo

My ford f150 will not always go into over drive. the light flashes sometimes indicating this. It happens when I drive at higher speeds on normal roads or the highway

It could be a few things. However, since the OD light has flashed, there should be a trouble code stored in the computer. Have you had it scanned?
