1997 Ford F150 exhaust manifold studs

the studs that attach the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe are shot (corroded, no threads left). i cant figure out how to remove them to put new ones in. the flange on the manifold side is smooth, no bolt head. are the original studs threaded in with a flush head? how do you remove them? thanks for any advice.

Hello,

You will need to remove the exhaust manifold. You will need to heat the flang were the stud go into the manifold and using vise grips, if you have enough stud to clamp onto, turn the stud out. You will most likely need the flang cherry red in order to turn the stud.
