1993 Ford F150 Hard shift 1'st to second.

I have a 93 f-150 that runs like a dream until the outside temp is above 80 F. It shifts smooth until the engine gets to operating temp, then suddnly the check engine light comes on and the hard shifting follows from 1'st gear to second. Any suggestions?
