timing setting procedure

Engine Performance problem 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 79,000 miles

I've got what I believe is a TFI-IV distributor, since it has no vacuum advance line, on a 4.9L. What is the timing spec. and procedure to set it? The truck has a spark knock under load.

Hello,

there is an octain rod on the side of the distributor that can be adjusted which moves the timing. Here are diagrams to check out what the book says about adjusting the timing (below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
