I drove approx. 15 miles averaging about 45 to 50 mph. then out of the blue I hear a small backfire followed by my vehicle stalling out. Pull over to the side...pop the hood...inspect the engine. Everything appears normal. checked to see if the carb chokeplat e was open and it was. I then cranked the daylights out of it but to no avail. The engine just didn't seem like it was firing. Towed it to a garage...mechanic installed an ecu...that didn't work...Then he installed a new coil pack & that didn't work. Theres this electrical thingy dangling under the distributor...don't know exactly what you call it but its dark brown, 2 & a half inches long, 7 eights wide by half inch thick... got 1 wire coming out of each end.Perhaps a resistor or fusible link? anyhow he tested it on both sides, said it didn't light on one siden removed it & taped the wires together. then my truck started right up.Drove home with no problems. Following day wife & I drive downtown to pay bills...same thing happens. Wife says...ya know this happened to me at the dump the other day...had to let the engine cool down for almost an hour before it would fire up. So we sat there in the truck for about an hour and then it started right up & we went back home. Temp guage reads normal...full tank of gas in a brand new tank...oil level full...new plugs...inside of dist. cap appears ok...no sign of cracks or arching, clean contacts...rotor cap appears ok too...plug wires ok. I'm at my wits end, lol...any ideas...could it be fuel pump related?...or some stupid sensor?...plz help,,,ty
