Windshield washer switch malfunction

I have a 1997 Explorer xlt, 110,000 miles awd. I can't activate the spray function of my windshield washer function unless I press extremely hard (Almost to the point of breaking). I have already had the spray motor replaced which only temporarily solved the problem. I have a feeling the problem is in the switch itself. I have also noticed the cruise control buttons on the left side of the steering wheel don't ever light up and am wondering if this might be related. Any thoughts on how I can troubleshoot and repair? Thanks for your help, I've been frustrated by this for quite a while.
