tapping noise at start up and during driving

tapping noise at start up and during driving "sounds like a diesel" x 3 days. Changed oil yesterday, added 5 quarts synthetic oil, filled with higher octane gasoline, radiator drain and fill completed. No distinct smells or visible fluid leaks noted.

it could possibly be the valve lifters , mine do the same thing every once in awhile it's mor annoying than anything else but don't let it go on too long without it being checked out.

its also possible that the knock sensor is bad.
