CHIRP OR SQUEEK FROM ENGINE

2002 Ford Explorer Limited V8 AWD & 78'000 km The transmission was serviced at about 59,000 km

I get a loud Chirp (like a short, "human" whistle) that I think is coming from the transmission. It happens when I accelerate from stop, but also regularly at 7-10 second intervals when cursing. It is most noticeable when I am beside a building, concrete barrier or something else that will "reflect" the noise back and the windows are open. It took about a month to get my son and wife to acknowledge that it is actually happening. With noise (traffic, radio music, talking, etc) it seems to get lost in the mix of things. I have now become acutely aware of it and it is driving me nuts. I talked to my dealership and they had not heard of this issue and didn't think it was anything to worry about. My extended warranty is coming due... so if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it!!!

I think it's more likly to be the serpentine belt and the belt tensioner need to be replaced!

I have a Ford Explorer, 2002, 120,000 miles, V6 engine.

I also am having noise come from under the hood of my Explorer. My Explorer recently died on me, so we brought it in and needed a new alternator and battery. We took it to one place for the battery and another place for the alternator. We started w/the battery, and drove to the next dealer. At this time, no noise was coming from the car. Then we took the car to the place to get the alternator done. When we picked up the car it was making super load screeching noises. The mechanic couldn't get us in for a few weeks to fix the sound and then wanted $70 for a pulley and timing belt. I told him the car made no noise when I left it there, he obviously did something to the car to cause that noise. We've been going back and forth, and nothing has been resolved. What do you believe to have happened- the belt is too tight or what? Thanks!! Please email me asap at [email protected]

If the belt and tensioner are ok, try looking at the CAS housing, we have seen the housing get gummed up and start squeaking, remove the top of the sensor and ad motor oil down into the housing, it will lube the housing again and on your way. please let me know. The CAS housing is located were the distributor used to be and has a electrical connector going ot it.
