I have a 97 Ford Explorer with 125K miles. It has a 4.0L SOHC engine and is 4WD. Sometimes when decelerating from highway speeds it will make this buzzing noise for about 2-5 sec. It sounds like gears stripping at high speed. It sounds like it is coming from the front of the vehicle.

This vehicle is driven daily and it has only occurred 3-4 times in the last couple of weeks. There are no other noticeable signs of trouble or issues.
