I have a 1998 Ford Explorer XLS W/4.0 L SOHC with 104,000 Mi ,2WD ,Auto. The Accesory belt tensensior simply dissembled it self when the vheicle was started the other day. It seems the retaining bolt head wore thru the front housing ot the failed tensensior. It was the original part so I guess it's about due. I shut down before any damage was done (the belt was fine !) I replaced the part and the motor seems to run good. With the new tensensior I see what caused the old one to wear like that as the new tensensior "dances" just a little at idle. Is this common or part of a larger problem?
