security light

I have a 2004 ford explorer xlt, V6 4.0 engine that will not start. I have a brand new battery and alternator. Both were taken to autozone to be tested. I was told it could be transponder key, I had a locksmith try and reprogram the key and it still would not start. I have had the fuses checked and none seem to be bad. When the key is put in the ignition they red light blinks red really fast, and when the car is turned I hear like a clicking noise. A friend who is a mechanic tried jump starting by hitting the starter but the car would sound like it was going to start but would not catch. If someone could please direct me in the best possible direction so I can save on tows or other possible waste of money, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
