I checked the price at the local parts store. Cost for R134a runs about $8 to $12 per 14oz can. Your unit will take about 4 or 5 of them to charge.

Most garages use a 30lb cylinder for charging. In bulk, it costs about $75 to $100 for a cylinder that size. That figures out to less than $3.50 per pound!

This guy should be reported to the BBB and the local Chamber of Commerce!! He is robbing you badly!

Also, keep in mind that with this refrigerant, it is VERY IMPORTANT to evacuate the system thoroughly before recharging. Moisture in the system is highly corrosive and will cause early failure of the compressor.
