Hi, I'm having a little trouble with my Sport Trac. A few weeks ago, It didn't want to start so i did what any person with a little mechanical knowledge would do...I tried to eliminate the possibilities of where the problem could be. Turns out, i wasn't getting no fuel. I immediately thought it was my fuel pump but later remembered that i once had a Topaz that I crashed and didn't want to start later because the Inertia switch kicked on. I figured, ah, what the heck? I'll try and reset it and maybe that will solve my problems. well, as soon as I did, she fired right up like nothing ever happened. Well today, I get in my truck and start reversing down my driveway, the truck shuts off again and doesn't want to start...I reset the inertia switch yet again, wondering if it would work for me a second time...And it did. My question is whats Happening that my fuel Inertia switch keeps tripping? Do I have a faulty fuel Pump? or is it just the switch that needs replacing? Or am I waaay Off and it is something entirely different? Any Help would be Greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

In most cases, it is not the switch, it is the connector. It is overheated to the point of losing contact. If the damage it too severe, the switch contacts may also be damaged. I simply bypassed the whole thing to avoid future problems. Ford is about the only manufacturer who utilizes this device. Your choice, either replace the switch and connector or bypass and eliminate the problem all together.

the anti-theft fuel pump shutoff reset switch is malfunctioning on my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport. It periodcally shutoffs my fuel pump but the switch itself doesn't trip making it impossible to reset. Sometimes I have to wait hours before the engine will start again. Can I bypass this swich by splicing the wires together that feed the switch?

That's not an anti theft switch. It's an Inertia switch to shut the fuel off in case of collision. If you're having a problem with it, simply replace it.

Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I was in a small fender bender and now the truck won't start. I was told by the tow truck driver that fords have a reset button to turn the fuel back on. If this is true where do I find it?

Thanks,

If it ran after you refueled, that isn't the problem. I need you to check fuel pump pressure. Also, check the fuel filter to make sure it isn't plugged.

I have seen many situations where the pump goes bad when this happens. That is why I want you to check pressure and the filter.

Here is a how to for checking:

https://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_check_fuel_pressure.htm

Let me know what you find. Also, if you have good fuel pressure, check for spark to the plugs.

Let me know what you find.

Its located in the right front kick panel

[quote:9b2da3159d="mata36"]if you hear the buzzing noise from the fuel pump that mean it turns on and it you see its througs pruser out when you disconnect the gasline from thr fuel rilter that means it througs presure out, is there a posebility that still not working.

Disconnecting it @ the filter don't mean nothing, you need a fuel pressure gauge to check it has to be in specs.

Please! stay in 1 post you do not need to make another post to get your answers. We can all do it in one.

Good LUck

Hi:
I'm not aware of a button, but the fuel pump inertia switch is located in the right front passenger area. You will find it in the right front corner, mounted on the toe board, just beside the right front kick panel.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, the inertia switch is located in the right kick panel. I've attached a picture below. To reset the switch use a finger to depress the button. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
