The left rear hub became extremely hot to the touch after a 30 mile drive. In fact, when I got home, the "Ford" lug nut cover popped off on its own. The hub on which the tire is mounted (around the lug nuts) is too hot too touch, even with a quick tap of the hand. There is a strong odor as well.

Any thoughts?

thanks

It's most likley the caliper needs replacing, but can be axle bearing look for oil inside the tire....check your brakes.
