Brakes problem
2002 Ford Explorer V8 Automatic 30000 miles

After two days of not driving, when I drove my explorer today, I noticed that the cruise control would not work and upon further checking, I see that my brake lights STAY on all the time. I had to disconnect the battery cable over night to keep the battery from running down. I beat on the little switch under the brake pedal, but that didn't help. Any suggestions before I have to go to the Ford dealer?
Thanks

Just replace the switch. That's obviously where the problem is and tapping on it was a good idea but that rarely works. I've done it, too. It didn't work for me either. Replace the switch. Also, before you go buy the switch, look at the operation of the switch. Is it the plunger type with a flat tab on the pedal that depresses the plunger when the brakes are released? If so, is there a hole in that tab that allows the plunger to simply 'go through' instead of pushing it in? If so, I've used the little plastic "christman tree" fasteners to fill that hole. Lay in the floor and watch the operation of the switch and make sure there's not a mechanical problem before you spend any money. Good luck
