2001 Ford explorer sport(fuel)

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport with 80,000 Kms When i start the vehicle in the mornings it starts perfect after driving it for awhile and shut it off and restart it it rolls alot and sometimes alittle backfire like a puff under the hood .I had the fuel pressure checked and it holds the pressure when started but when i shut it down it goes to zero the vehicle run smooth on the highway and around town no problems only restarting but ot in the mornings i call ford about a fuel pressure regulater the parts person stated it was 250 bucks but he as never sold one for this type of vehicle and the 4 litre motor so i am don't want to spend 250 bucks if it doen't solve my problems . What is your take on this one guys?

It is either the fuel pressure regulator (maybe) or the fuel pump. When a regulator goes bad you will have too much fuel. Your sympton sounds like a fuel pump. Have you changed the fuel filter/?

new fuel filter installed ,the vehicle is not working as if there is to much fuel ,runs great only trouble seems to be hot starts (shut of for 10 minutes) then restart ,you wouldn't think the fuel would run back in that time frame , it starts perfect in the morning

It sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is either bad or the vacuum line to it is broken. Check it out and let me know

Thanks how would i check to see if the pressure regulator is bad with the guage the reading stays up with the motor running but drops to zero when i shut down the motor , also if i push the valve on the that the pressure guage is screwed to there is not much gas that comes out

monitor the pressure with a a guge. Pull off the regulator vacuum line and the pressure should rise. If it remains the same it is probably a bad regulator.

Hi I replace the fuel pressure regulator today same problem , pressure is 60 while running and engine is running good when i turn the engine off the pressure goes down to zero is this normal on this machine 2001 Ford Explorer sport 2 door 4 x4 ,It starts perfect in the morning seems to be hard to start when warm
