The lights won't come on automatically.
instrument panel won't light up
rear lights don't light when I turn lights on manually

Hi, Mike.

All the lights you're talking about are powered through your headlight switch. First, I would make sure you haven't blown a fuse. At that point, the electrical circuitry needs to be checked with a voltmeter or continuity tester to see if we have power to the switch and whether or not it is closing the circuits when it's supposed to. On some of the later model Explorers, there is an integrated timer that shuts the lights off for you when they've been left on. This circuit should also be checked. If you would like to attempt this yourself, I'll be glad to post a wiring diagram for you.
