What type of power control module do I need and where is it located?

I was told that i have to take the old one off first and get the number off of it. i was also told i could get this info by the VIN. i also want to know where in the dash this module driver is located on the passenger side, please.

Hello,

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is mounted through cowl panel.
You will have to access it from under the hood (see diagram below).

Yes, you can simply get the number from the PCM itself. Another option would be to call your local Ford dealer and provide them with the VIN. They will be able to look up and let you know which part number is your PCM.
Also, the replacement PCM will need to be programmed to your vehicle, using a special scan tool.
